On June 5, 2021, my life took an irreversible turn when I discovered a lump in my breast. The fear of the worst outcome was accompanied by a glimmer of hope, leading me to consult a series of healthcare professionals, eventually confirming my nightmare: a stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, early detection was on my side. Supported unwaveringly by my friends and sons.
I embarked on my journey. Enduring months of hospital visits, breast surgery and numerous radiation sessions. I stand today as a proud breast cancer survivor.

Breast Cancer & Mental Health Awareness Seminar & Soul Session - 12th of October 2024
It was a day filled with immense learning, as well as love, laughter and dancing. On the 12th of October 2024, Risima Foundation hosted its first Breast Cancer & Mental Health Awareness Seminar + Soul Session at the Botany Urban Grill & Butcher.
The day comprised of two engaging and informative panel discussions regarding mental health and breast cancer, respectively. Our panellists included experts like Prof Carol-Ann Benn, as well as individuals with lived experience. Their willingness to share their knowledge with care and sincerity is made the event incredibly impactful and educational. We all left the event knowing that we had received wisdom and knowledge that would help us navigate the world with more grace and understanding.
Once the more serious matters were attended to, the festivities took place as various top quality Dj’s got onto the decks and set the venue alight with soulful tunes that led us into the beautiful evening. We ate good food, danced to mesmerizing music and shared a lovely day with friends and family.
This was a milestone event for Risima Foundation and we look to the future with the utmost hope and optimism. Thank you to everyone that attended the event. *Awareness is Power.*
Irene Link - Mobile Mammogram Event 5 October 2024
On the 5th October 2024, Risima Foundation hosted second Mobile Mammogram Event at the Irene Link Shopping Centre. Thank you for showing up once again and we are on this journey together. Hope to see you in October 2025.
Rietspruit Clinic Event held 1st of October 2024
On the 1st of October, the Rietspruit Clinic was the venue for a significant event as Glencore (iMpunzi Complex) partnered with Risima Foundation to conduct a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. This initiative was aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer, providing support to those affected by the disease, and informing the community about available testing and support services. The event was a heartfelt effort to enlighten the community on the importance of early detection and to stand in solidarity with those battling breast cancer.

Irene Link - Mobile Mammogram Event
On the 28th October 2023, Risima Foundation hosted it’s first Mobile Mammogram Event at the Irene Link Shopping Centre. The response that we received has left me sincerely humbled. The event surpassed every expectation I had, and I am proud to announce that we managed to help 14 ladies undergo mammogram screenings.
The stories heard and conversations had throughout the day were a beautiful reminder of the humanity and empathy that exists within all of us. When we choose to hold hands and stand together, the darkness starts to fade into light.
From the depths of my heart, I thank each and every one of you who contributed your resources, efforts, time and well wishes. The Risima Foundation will continue to strive because of your belief in it.
Furthermore, I was reminded of the important work that still needs to be done in the battle against breast cancer. The Risima Foundation has just gotten started and the future looks bright, and cancer free
Deaf Empowerment Firm
My heart is full after spending time with @Alex Msitshana and the @Deaf Empowerment Firm ladies. Thank you to @Tebello Khatiti, @Elton Makgalemele Bapela and our interpreter Sello. @Risima foundation is grateful to celebrate Disability Rights Awareness Month with you, bring breast cancer awareness to the community.
The 24th of Novemeber 2023 marks a day that will always be remembered with great fondness and fulfillment. The Rsisima Foundation was blessed enough to hold hands with the Deaf Empowerement Firm, as we offered free mammogram screenings to women living with deafness. We could think of no better way to honour Disability Month. The event took place in Soweto at the Dube Community Centre, and it turned out to be quite a special day.
We often live our lives filled with feelings of worry, self-pity and ingratitude. We forget how much we are blessed with, and that simply waking up with all of your senses and abilities is a gift that we receive each and everyday. The ladies from the Deaf Empowerement Firm are such a beautiful and bright reminder of this need to be thankful.
The entire day was filled with laughter and cloaked in love. Despite being robbed of their hearing, they were not consumed by anger nor grief. Instead, they go out into the world looking to give and not to receive. They seek to teach and help, not to consume. Throughout the day, the deaf women sought to connect, and even took the time to teach us some sign language. Their eminiating love and gratitude was enough to warm the heart as well as sooth the soul. It is a day that cannot be forgotten.
On the flipside, The Risima Foundation was saddened to hear about the plights that they face as a result of their disablities, as well as how little support is made available to them, whether it is a matter of education or employment, not to mention the day to day troubles they have navigating society

Jacaranda FM - Good Morning Angels
God is constantly reminding us of the beauty amongst the pain. I look at my son and I am reminded that miracles do exist, and that God is real. My boy spotted his gift and was fearless enough to pursue it. Without any formal training, he set himself upon a path to mastery. Today I stand teary-eyed and proud because that hard work has begun reaping beautiful fruit. Not only did he sell his first piece today; but he sold it for a whopping R25 000. All at the tender age of 16. Being the generous young man that I raised, the proceeds shall not go into his own pocket but will be going towards the Risima Foundation. Words cannot capture this feeling. I am both a proud mother, and a grateful breast cancer survivor. My son has given life to my vision by pursuing his dream. It is stunning how life unfolds.
